DIRECTOR – FINANCE & ADMINISTRATION / U.S. EMBASSY PROGRAMS
Asjain Wahid is a seasoned finance and grants management professional with over 13 years of progressive experience in the development sector. He currently serves as the Director – Finance & Administration / U.S. Embassy Programs at the Sri Lanka Development Journalists Forum (SDJF), where he oversees the financial and administrative management of a broad portfolio of programs funded by international donors, including the U.S. Embassy.
Asjain holds a Second Class Honours degree in Business Administration from South Eastern University of Sri Lanka. He also completed a Diploma in Computerized Accounting (QuickBooks) and the final level of the Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) program. Before joining SDJF in 2011, he worked as a Junior Accountant at SBM Sri Lanka.
Throughout his tenure at SDJF, Asjain has played a central role in financial planning, donor reporting, budgeting, and compliance. He has been a key contributor to numerous high-impact initiatives such as Radio Drama for Social Advocacy, Digital Storytelling, CANDID Voices, Forum Theatre, iVoice.lk, the National Youth Summit, the Media Empowerment for a Democratic Sri Lanka (MEND) and Innovative Spaces for Promoting Freedom of Expression and Information Right program.
In his current leadership role, Asjain not only ensures fiscal integrity and operational excellence across all programs but also directly manages the implementation of U.S. Embassy-funded projects. His meticulous financial oversight and commitment to transparency continue to strengthen SDJF’s impact and sustainability.
The initiative
Within #EqualizeHer, we craft stories through the lens of gender. This initiative shines a spotlight on critical human rights issues, including gender-based violence (GBV), sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), migration challenges, and economic disparities affecting women and young girls in marginalized settings.
